Rutgers signed 22 players on Wednesday from New Jersey, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland and Virginia. The class is ranked 40th in the country and 10th in the Big Ten, per 247Sports.com, heading into the last two days of the signing period.
Cam’ron Stewart, DE, Governor Mifflin (Reading, Pa.): “From day one, I was welcomed into the Rutgers family. The signing just made it official. The best part was walking the NLI from Fedex into the house and handing it to my mom. She worked so hard all these years to have that moment. The future is bright at Rutgers!”
Kevin Toth Jr., OL, Hudson (Ohio): “Signing with all my boys was the best part of my day. The goal is for us to become conference champs, Big Ten champs, and then national champs.”
Al-Shadee Salaam, RB, East Orange (N.J.) Campus: “It feels good. I think I made a great decision and I think we got some work to do. But at the end we will be successful.”
Austin Dean, LB, Berkeley Prep (Tampa, Fla.): “It’s a feeling of relief and excitement that I was able to fulfill a childhood dream of mine. I think the future for the program is bright and I hope I’m a big part of it. Everyone in program matters and they’re all really close and a family.”
Shaquan Loyal, DB, West Side (Newark, N.J.): It feels great to be signed with Rutgers it’s a lot of talent coming to Rutgers and it’s going to be a good change. The best part was seeing my parents smile it was a good feeling. The future of this team will be bright people are definitely going to remember us. I believe I will play a tremendous role on this team.
Brayden Fox, WR, Archbishop Hoban (Akron, Ohio): “Honestly, man, it feels so great. There’s no better feeling than today. Knowing you worked your ass off every summer for this game to end up where we always wanted to be. The best part about being signed to Rutgers is that we are the underdogs. Everyone is sleep, which means we get to move in silence and come take everything.
“The future of the team is going to be tremendous. I can’t wait to get on campus and follow the great wide receivers that are there and learn from them, as well as Coach (Tiquan) Underwood, who is the greatest coach I’ve ever meet. He loves getting after it with his players and really believes in the fundamentals of the game.”
