Ahead of the biotech+ hub opening at Pegasus Park in fall 2021, life science startups have the opportunity to be part of ThinkLab, a startup non-seed accelerator that’s coming to Dallas next month.
LaunchBio and its community partners the UTSW Office of Technology Development and TechFW are inviting startups to apply to ThinkLab’s first Dallas cohort, which is meant to help entrepreneurs create a business plan and connect them to resources and mentors.
The first ThinkLab cohort, which will be part of Pegasus Park, will begin on January 26, 2021, with an information session on December 11 for those interested in applying. While the program typically has a $1,000 entry fee, the first cohort will not have to pay one.
To qualify for the program, applicants must be working on proprietary technology or a process with a high barrier to entry. They must also own the rights to the technology or have licensed the technology.
“ThinkLab is an outlet for the closet entrepreneur, where you can fulfill your internal destiny of writing your own path and directing your own dreams, with the support of a diverse group of innovative thinkers who mentor, grow and cultivate long lasting relationships among the community,” Allison Silveus, Co-founder of Gamified Screening Solutions LLC, said on TechFW’s website.
ThinkLab also has a program at TechFW’s headquarters, where there will also be a virtual cohort in early 2021.
The ThinkLab program will last 12 weeks with weekly virtual classes and outside work to help startups reach the program’s goals. Wendy Kennedy’s So what? Who cares? Why you? Methodology and the Business Model Canvas are used throughout the program.
With more than 60 companies and 27,000 jobs in biotechnology and life sciences in DFW, ThinkLab’s Dallas cohort should come as no surprise.
Pegasus Park’s biotech+ hub
Pegasus Park is a mixed-use social purpose project that will be located near the Dallas Medical District. The project is meant to boost local biotech, nonprofit, and corporate innovation in Dallas.
A major component of Pegasus Park, which is slated to open in early 2021, is a biotech+ hub. The hub is expected to be approximately 37,000 square feet with a lab, training, and office area for a premium and flexible experience. Lyda Hill Philanthropies and J. Small Investments decided to create the hub as a source for innovation in life sciences.
Some of Pegasus’ tenants have already been announced including Dallas-based Commit Partnership, The Dallas Foundation, The Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation, United to Learn, and Uplift Education. Uplift has already started moving its team to a temporary space at Pegasus Park while the office is completed in the main tower.
