PlayStation documentary trailer shows how far games have come since 1994 - CNET

As the hype grows for the upcoming PS5, an independent documentary diving into the history of Sony's PlayStation sounds pretty inviting. A trailer for From Bedrooms to Billions: The PlayStation Revolution dropped Wednesday, ahead of the documentary's Sept. 7 release on VOD services, Blu-Ray and DVD.

It includes interviews with icons from the brand's 25-year history like current PlayStation boss Jim Ryan, Metal Gear Solid mastermind Hideo Kojima, lead PS5 architect Mark Cerny and Resident Evil co-creator Shinji Mikami. The trailer also shows plenty of footage from games through the years.

This documentary was funded through Kickstarter and directed by Anthony and Nicola Caulfield, who previously helmed documentaries about the UK video games industry and the Amiga.

The original PlayStation came out in Japan in December 1994, but didn't hit the US or Europe until September 1995. It got the Guinness World Record for best-selling console brand on the 25th anniversary of its Japanese launch. The PS5 is due out this holiday season.
