Jalen Hurts played the worst game of his young career in Week 3, showcasing frustration at times while looking outmatched by a Dallas Cowboys defense that had an answer for every move he made. Hurts finished with 326 passing yards, many of which occurred when the game was out of hand.
Hurts threw two interceptions. The first was an underthrow and the second was a stare down on his primary read that led to six points the other way. Any progression Hurts made in Week 1 turned into regression over the last two outings, raising more questions about whether Hurts can be the franchise quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles.
His teammates still believe Hurts is the guy, even after the subpar performance.
"Whenever you get beat like that, it's everybody. Losses like that don't happen just because of one guy," Jason Kelce said after the loss. "But that is the way you would expect Jalen Hurts to feel. Bottom line is the leaders that are really good players ultimately feel that they completely control the situation."
"He's moving on to next week," Lane Johnson said after the game on the JAKIB Media Postgame show. "He never gets rattled ever."
Hurts has been praised for his leadership since he was drafted by Philadelphia, although his conversation with DeVonta Smith following his interception that was returned for a touchdown raised some eyebrows. Smith fell on the route and Hurts made it easy for Trevon Diggs to pick off the pass and take it the other way.
Hurts rolled his eyes after Smith explained what happened. It wasn't Hurts' finest moment.
"This didn't go my way, things didn't go our way," Hurts said. "It's tough. All I can do is take ownership for how I played, and how it affected the team in the end."
Hurts is going back to the drawing board. The Monday night debacle is one Hurts wants flush down the toilet, literally.
"You take you a deuce, you don't sit there and look at it," Hurts said. "You flush it and move on. We're going to flush it."
