The 2021 Gold Glove winners were announced Sunday night, leaving the Dodgers without a winner for the first time since 2018. Mookie Betts, Max Muncy and A.J. Pollock were all finalists.
The trio of Dodgers fell short to Cardinals’ teammates Paul Goldschmidt (first base) and Tyler O’Neill (left field), along with Atlanta’s Adam Duvall (right field).

The Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners are selected by the managers of the 30 MLB teams and up to six of each team’s respective coaches. Each manager and coach vote from a pool of qualified players in their League and cannot vote for players from their own team.
In 2013, Rawlings added a sabermetric component to the Rawlings Gold Glove Award selection process, as part of its collaboration with the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR). The SABR Defensive Index™ (SDI) comprises approximately 25 percent of the overall selection total, with the managers and coaches’ vote continuing to carry the majority.
Betts would’ve become the second Dodgers player to win multiple Gold Glove Awards in right field, joining Raul Mondesi who won in 1995 and 1997. This year’s award would’ve also meant six in a row for Betts but it wasn’t to be.
He was tied for third among National League right fielders in Total Zone Rating at +6. That stat is the number of runs above or below average the player was worth based on fielding plays made.
Muncy ranked first among qualified NL first basemen in Statcast’s Outs Above Average and FanGraphs’ ultimate zone rating per 150 games, measuring the number of runs a fielder saved.
