Sept 2 (Reuters) - An incident at the Come-by-Chance refinery in Canada on Friday injured seven people but was now considered contained, refinery operator Braya Renewable Fuels said in a statement.
Braya Renewable Fuels said the incident occurred in the afternoon and that emergency personnel were on scene, but did not describe the incident.
CBC News reported earlier that there had been an explosion.
"At this time, our understanding is seven people were injured as a result of the incident, and the incident has been contained," Braya Renewable Fuels said.
"The authorities have been notified and we will cooperate fully with their investigation," it said.
CBC News, citing witnesses, reported earlier that an explosion happened shortly after 4 p.m. local time (1830 GMT) and multiple ambulances were seen coming and going from the refinery in Canada's Newfoundland province.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Newfoundland did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.
Last year, private equity firm Cresta Fund Management took a controlling stake in the 135,000-barrel-per-day Come-by-Chance refinery and renamed it Braya Renewable Fuels. read more
