“Trade is so important — particularly ag trade — the Asian markets are very lucatrative. We’re seeing that’s connected in transportation,” Wyden said. “Yesterday (Saturday) I was in Coos Bay. We have shipping capacity limits all over the West. If we get that port, we’ll be able to send more ag and more products. That will be good for our economy.”

Wyden will be joined at the leadership summit by Gov. Tina Kotek, Mayor Ted Wheeler, Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson along with business leaders. Among the topics will be revitalizing Portland by addressing critical housing and infrastructure needs.

“Oregonians want to see their elected officials and community leaders come out swinging on the big issues which are creating more jobs, driving down inflation, and safer streets,” said Wyden.

He said businesses can’t thrive unless people want to be here. That’s why he’s getting the feds involved in making the streets safer and targeting the drug crisis, “in particular, fentanyl.”

“We had a big bust a few days ago (in Oregon). I’m concerned abut the shppping of fentayl in small packages. I’ll be talking about making the streets safer and particularly the federal role in reducing this fentanyl,” Wyden said.
