Come from Away, the hit Broadway musical derailed by the coronavirus during its run at Dallas Summer Musicals, has been rebooked for 2021. DSM officials have scheduled its second Dallas debut for Friday, Jan. 5, with Its run at the Music Hall at Fair Park extending through Jan. 17.
Come from Away staged two performances when it opened in March, one as a preview, the second as its official opening night. But on March 12, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins announced that the county would ban gatherings of more than 500 people. Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson followed by issuing his own identical order.
So, that was it for the opening run of Come from Away.

DSM officials added this to the announcement about the rescheduling:
“Ticket holders for performances March 13-22, 2020 should hold on to their original Come From Away tickets, as they will be honored for the new performance dates. Patrons who cannot make their new performance date should contact their original point of purchase for potential exchange opportunities. For more information, visit dallassummermusicals.org/shows/come-from-away.”
Ironically, Come from Away is set in Gander, Newfoundland, where planes were diverted in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Having the show open in Dallas during the spread of COVID-19 underscored the real-life drama of the Tony Award-winning musical.
“Come From Away is a story about kindness and people coming together in a time of fear and uncertainty, which is all too familiar to us right now,” Ken Novice, president of Dallas Summer Musicals, said in his official announcement. “We look forward to its return so that we can relish in the shared experience of live theater once again.”
