The future has never been brighter for the Memphis Grizzlies. Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr., Brandon Clarke, and the rest of this young team have fans looking ahead to a real chance to compete for a playoff spot this season as things get back rolling in the Orlando bubble. Beyond that? The sky seems to be the limit...and that is exciting.
With that in mind, there’s never been a better time to have your voice heard on all things Memphis Grizzlies. And the best place out there is to do just that, Grizzly Bear Blues, is once again taking applications.
I remain a bit biased heading in to year five as Site Manager of GBB, but I have never been more proud of the work of our staff and the growth we have seen. There is no place in all of Grizzdom where you will get as comprehensive a variety of voices, a mix of quality and quantity of articles, an opportunity to explore multimedia in sports blogging such as podcasts and also be given the chance to truly advance in this wild 21st century world of sports media.
Multiple former GBBers have taken their experiences here and turned it in to positions with local Memphis companies, college internships, and even full-time journalism gigs at reputable media outlets like the Daily Memphian. From no audio content at all to an expanding podcast network, from a limited media connection to multiple weekly appearances on local Memphis radio stations such as 92.9 ESPN and Sports 56 WHBQ, from GBBers old and young there has been rapid and impressive growth for our site both in terms of legitimacy and scope.
Want to be a part of what we are doing? Here’s how.
Starting today, Friday June 26th, I will be accepting resumes and work samples at my personal email address, mullinaxjoe@gmail.com. If you do not have a work sample, know that in order to be considered for a position you will need to prepare a FanPost here at GBB (I will give you details about that when I respond to your initial contact email). Within that interest email, and along with those attachments, please indicate which of the following positions you are applying for. There are three categories of openings-
ASSOCIATE EDITOR-
Parker Fleming has done a tremendous job as my de facto #2 at GBB, We need more editing help - someone who can help us during my busiest time of the year - football season (assuming it happens) - and beyond with scheduling, editing, and otherwise organizing various aspects of GBB. In addition to administrative duties, this person will be expected to write at least one post per week out of season (May through September) and two per week in season (October through April), to make appearances on our GBB Podcast Network shows GBBLive, 3 and D, and The Core Four, and be available for radio and television appearances when needed. This position will also receive consideration for media access through the GBB press pass.
This is a paid position, and will require selection for an interview with me.
SENIOR MULTIMEDIA WRITER-
This is another paid position, but does not have the editing/scheduling responsibility that the Associate Editor does, and therefore does not require as much of a time commitment. This person could still be eligible for podcast and radio/TV appearances, but will only be held accountable for one post per week out of season and two posts per week in season. This position will also receive consideration for media access through the GBB press pass. This spot will also be bolstered by a candidate that has experience with video editing, podcasting, graphics, and other multimedia facets as GBB evolves its coverage of the Grizzlies organization (Hustle and Grizz Gaming included).
This is a paid position, and will require selection for an interview from me.
PODCASTER-
The GBB Podcast network is growing. We have three steady shows - GBBLive, The Core Four, and 3 and D, that have become staples of hundreds of podcast feeds. But we want to continue to grow - we need a 4th show. It could be an already established podcast that the host(s) want to bring in to the network, or it could be an idea from someone for something brand spanking new. Experience podcasting is preferred but not required - we are looking for creative ideas and a willingness to learn and grow together as we expand this area of the site.
This is a paid position, based off of performance in terms of downloads. Terms will be discussed in the interview.
I will be accepting resumes from now through Friday, July 3rd. I will review resumes and schedule interviews for Monday-Friday July 6th-10th. Then, we will make decisions and begin to move forward with three new GBBers. We are looking for passionate, opinionated, hard working people that want to help us take GBB to even greater heights as we continue to build upon the work already done in building this blog starting with the Orlando bubble and beyond.
Thank you all for your interest in Grizzly Bear Blues. I began as a FanPoster myself almost a decade ago and over time worked my way up from an unpaid contributor to Site Manager. I have had the chance to meet and work with people I never thought I would ever speak to, much less consider colleagues and in some cases friends. I am not special - I worked hard, grinded away, and without any professional training have the opportunity to run the very best Grizzlies fan blog there is. I am excited for year five of my time as Site Manager to begin, and hope you will consider reaching out to me at mullinaxjoe@gmail.com about the possibility of joining our team.
And we’re off! Remember, applications will be accepted through Friday, July 3rd. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
