Reports: Players come back at MLB with 89-game proposal - NBCSports.com

One year after the 2018 Stanley Cup champion Capitals became the first team to receive the “Team of Distinction” honor from the Washington D.C. Sports Hall of Fame, two more title-winning organizations are following suit.

The 2019 World Series champion Nationals and 2019 WNBA champion Mystics will both be honored this summer for their first respective titles in the histories of their franchises. Typically held at Nationals Park, the ceremony has yet to be scheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Below is the full list of 2020 inductees:

Ken Beatrice – Sports talk radio host on WMAL and WTEM for over 20 years, passed away in 2015

Herman Boone – Head football coach at T.C. Williams High School who won the 1971 Virginia state championship, passed away in December

Austin Carr – No. 1 overall pick in the 1971 NBA Draft, played high school basketball at Macklin High School in D.C.

Gary Clark – Two-time Super Bowl winner with the Redskins who earned four Pro Bowl selections and still holds Washington’s rookie receiving record with 926 yards in 1985

Bob Dwyer – Head coach of the first fully integrated high school basketball team in the Washington-area Catholic conference, led Archbishop Carroll to a 55-game winning streak, passed away in 2007

Jim Ellis – USWNT head coach who led the U.S. to 2015 and 2019 FIFA World Cup championships, captain of Robinson Secondary School soccer team that won 1984 Virginia state title

Wil Jones – D.C. native who had jersey retired as a player at American University, led University of District of Columbia to 1982 D-II national championship, passed away in 2014

John Lucas – University of Maryland product who went No. 1 overall in 1976 NBA Draft and played 13 years in the league, runs drug treatment and recovery program for athletes

2019 Washington Nationals – Overcame a 19-31 start and won five come-from-behind playoff games on their way to winning the 2019 World Series in seven games over the 107-win Houston Astros

2019 Washington Mystics – Led by league MVP Elena Delle Donne, rode the league’s highest-scoring offense to the 2019 WNBA Finals before beating the Connecticut Sun in five games

Founded in 1980, the D.C. Sports Hall of Fame honors District-area athletes, coaches, executives and journalists with their names displayed at Nationals Park. Principal owner Mark Lerner is one of 15 members of the selection committee.
