Opportunity at Tennessee 'a Dream Come True' for In-State WR Brunetti - Spartan Nation

Yesterday, talented pass-catcher Lucien Brunetti announced his intentions to commit to Tennessee as a preferred walk-on. Brunetti chose the opportunity at Tennessee over offers to Kansas, Kentucky, and Memphis.

The Montgomery Bell Academy (Tenn.) standout is also the son of Pearl Cohn (Tenn.) head coach, Tony Brunetti, who helped him throughout the process while the two were on different fields on Friday nights.

"I felt it was a good relationship with Coach Golesh and the new wide receiver coach, Kodi Burns. I felt like those two guys would give me a chance to play Division 1 football at a big-time level and make me a better man in life," the younger Brunetti said on his decision to choose Tennessee.

Burns and Golesh quickly made an impression on Brunetti after taking over in Knoxville. "Just how they treat their players. They love everybody the same no matter where you come from or how you go to where you got. They treat you all the same, which I like," he said.

The process was not always easy for Lucien, as COVID and the return of many college seniors across the country impacted his recruitment tremendously. His father, Tony, was able to help him stay patient during the process.

"I just told him we are going to take this one game at a time," the Pearl Cohn head coach said. "We are going to go do our best at 100 percent every time. If you get three passes a game, be the best player you can be in those three passes.  Take every game and play your hardest and we will see what happens at the end."

That patience resulted in something Lucien had waited for since he was a kid. "I can't wait to play at that level of football. I have been dreaming of play at that level since I was a little kid. It is a dream come true," he said.

So what was it about his game Tennessee's staff liked?

"My route running ability, ability to break in and out of routes really well, and my overall knowledge of the game," Brunetti said about what Tennessee's staff likes about his game. "Early on, they want me to be a vertical guy in and out of the slot. As I get bigger and stronger, maybe move in and outside on the field."

"Just get bigger and stronger in the weight room," he said about improving his game. "That is probably the only thing holding me back. I feel like the other facets of my game are up to par for that level."

"I am a hardworking guy. I am very friendly but just know I am going to always give a hundred percent of my ability to bring a winning attitude to the team."
