West Peoria volunteer firefighters come together for young boy's birthday surprise - HOI ABC

WEST PEORIA (HOI) --- Members of the West Peoria Fire Department worked together Saturday morning to make a young boy's dream come true.

West Peoria resident Stacie Cregger wanted to surprise her nine year-old son Silus with a brand new trampoline.

But she is going into surgery later this month and didn't know how to get it put together in time.

Cregger reached out to the fire department on Facebook, and within 10 minutes, they responded and set up a time to swing by.

Nine members of the department helped out Saturday morning, and within two hours, Silus got his birthday surprise.

"With COVID and everything, it's been a rough year. There's been a lot of distance to know there's just a lot of great people still out there in the world," Cregger said. "And this community - I have to keep going on about our community in West Peoria. It's just amazing."

Cregger emphasized how much it meant - not only to give Silus a fun, new, outdoor activity - but to see such a quick and caring community effort take place in her own backyard.
