The New Orleans Saints head into 2021 with one of their most uncertain rosters yet. It’s only to be expected after Drew Brees retired, but a slew of recent events have threatened to sidetrack the Saints’ Super Bowl hopes and make this year an uncomfortable one.
Michael Thomas will miss the start of the season. David Onyemata will, too. The Winston-Hill battle is fun to watch and all, but when it comes down to finding a consistent, performing quarterback, neither player may fit the bill.
During a time like this, the Saints need experienced leadership more than ever, but some veterans are only dragging the rest of the team down.
This offseason, the Saints added years to their overall roster’s age with the Chris Hogan and Brian Poole signings, and some of New Orleans’ most dangerous players are reaching or have already past the wrong side of 30. Cameron Jordan, Demario Davis, Malcolm Jenkins, and Terron Armstead are just a few names that come to mind – if the Saints were trying to inject youthfulness into the team and change the face of the franchise post-Brees, they didn’t do a great job.
There’s still hope the Saints could make a deep postseason run with the star players they currently have along with the ones who could step up and grow a few shoe sizes.
They just may have to lose the dead weight.
These are the 3 Saints veterans who could get cut this summer.
