Norway recently pledged an additional 15 million Norwegian kroner (US$ 1.7 million) to support the WHO office in Mozambique. The funds will support the Government's COVID-19 response with a special focus on vaccine distribution.
WHO recently supported the delivery of 1.6 million antigen-detecting rapid diagnostic tests to boost Indonesia's capacity to detect SARS-CoV-2. Adding to a previous WHO shipment in March 2021 of 1 million rapid diagnostic tests, the current delivery was made possible through the generous contributions of the governments of Australia, Germany and Japan, and the European Union (EU). Critical emergency medical equipment was recently provided to 78 hospitals across Sri Lanka to support its COVID-19 response through a partnership between WHO and the European Union. The shipment included high-dependency unit beds, finger pulse oximeters, oxygen and related equipment, as well as other urgent supplies.
The European Union, together with WHO Thailand and the Ministry of Public Health, recently donated a large stock of COVID-19 protective equipment to the Maesot General Hospital in Tak Province in Thailand.
With support from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and WHO, Fiji’s ability to care for COVID-19 patients recently received a critical boost thanks to the delivery of life-saving medical supplies via WFP’s Pacific Humanitarian Air Service. The shipment included 15,000 kg of medical cargo comprising oxygen and accessories as well as protective equipment.
Jordan: training health workers to fight COVID-19

In Jordan, WHO and the Ministry of Health recently carried out a five-day training of trainers workshop for national and subnational rapid response teams. The course aimed to improve the country’s response to public health hazards with a focus on influenza, COVID-19 and other emerging respiratory disease epidemics.

Health workers and community leaders in Panama recently participated in training sessions on prevention measures to fight COVID-19 organized by the WHO Regional Office for the Americas (PAHO/WHO). Topics included ways the virus is transmitted, its symptoms, incubation time as well as the importance of prevention measures such as physical distancing, the use of masks, ventilation, hand hygiene and vaccination.
Bangladesh, Bolivia, Egypt, Liberia, Maldives and Somalia: vaccine solidarity in action

COVAX, co-led by WHO, continues to supply countries in need around the world with COVID-19 vaccine doses.
Liberia recently received a second batch of 96,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines donated by the French Government through COVAX in collaboration with the European Union.
A consignment of 302,400 doses of COVID-19 vaccines was recently delivered to Somalia, donated by the United States.
A third batch of approximately 1.8 million COVID-19 vaccine doses was recently shipped to Egypt through COVAX. Ambassadors in Egypt from Canada, the European Union, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States recognized their countries’ contributions to the delivery as an important boost in Egypt’s ongoing vaccination campaign amid rising cases of COVID-19.
Syria recently received its second batch of COVAX-facilitated vaccines with support from Sweden. The doses will be distributed in both the northwest and the government-controlled areas of the country.
Sweden also recently donated 153,600 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Bolivia through COVAX.
Bangladesh is delivering COVID-19 vaccines to Rohingya refugees housed in one of the world’s largest and most densely populated camps in Cox’s Bazar. The campaign rolled out on 10 August to vaccinate nearly 48,000 refugees.
The Government of Japan recently donated 112,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the Maldives through COVAX.

The Ministry of Public Health, WHO Thailand, and the World Vision Foundation of Thailand recently organized the vaccination of 300 migrant health volunteers in Bangkok.
Egypt, Islamic Republic of Iran, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia: joint research to treat COVID-19
Seven countries in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region recently joined WHO’s Solidarity PLUS trial in a new phase to test three new candidate drugs to treat COVID-19 patients. Researchers and scientists from Egypt, Islamic Republic of Iran, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are joining thousands of colleagues in 52 countries worldwide in the study, making up the largest global collaboration on COVID-19 research and development.
