As a down-wind resident of the proposed Fraser concrete batch plant, I have questions about the environmental impact in terms of air and noise pollution. A 2018 guide from the University of Texas at Austin Environmental Clinic states “(Concrete batch plant) particulate emissions are a complex mixture of extremely small particles and liquid droplets. Once inhaled, these particles can affect the heart and lungs and cause serious health effects, including increased risk of heart attacks, aggravation of asthma, and decreases in lung function.”
With the prevalent and strong west winds, it stands to reason that the brunt of the impact will be carried by the Fraser River Valley, Winter Park Ranch and possibly parts of Rendezvous. What levels of pollution will residents and tourists be exposed to? How will emissions be monitored, and what is the avenue of recourse if levels are higher than expected? How much will noise increase for individual neighborhoods?
Fraser’s tourist gold are beautiful nature, clean air and quietude. Do we fully understand the impact on these assets?
