Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw three touchdowns and led Kansas City to a fourth-quarter rally to beat the Cleveland Browns 33-29 in Sunday's season opener.
Down 29-20 with 10:10 left in the fourth quarter, Mahomes found Tyreek Hill for a stunning 75-yard pass to narrow Cleveland's lead to just two points. After the Browns failed to reach a first down on their next possession, the Chiefs got the ball at Cleveland's 15-yard line.
Mahomes connected with tight end Travis Kelce for an 8-yard touchdown pass to take a four-point lead. However, Kansas City's two-point conversion attempt failed. The Chiefs ended the Browns' final scoring attempt when Mike Hughes intercepted a short pass from Baker Mayfield intended for Harrison Bryant.
Mayfield finished the day with 321 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. He went 21-of-28.
Meanwhile, Mahomes threw for 337 yards while going 27-for-36.
Earlier in the game, Browns safety Ronnie Harrison was ejected in the first quarter after he shoved Chiefs running backs coach Greg Lewis on the sideline.
With Cleveland leading 8-0, Harrison appeared to step on Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, though it is unclear if it was intentional. Then, Lewis shoved Harrison away from his player. That's when Harrison retaliated, throwing a swing at Lewis, knocking off his glasses and headset.
Lewis initially received a flag for pushing Harrison. But the officials reviewed the skirmish and changed their decision, removing the penalty on Lewis and instead ejected Harrison.
