The Rams won all three doubles matches they played with New Mexico State, then took six of seven singles matches in action against the host Lobos and NMSU.
The pairings of Radka Buzkova/Matea Mihaljevic and Somer Dalla-Bona/Sarka Richterova – both of whom will play the ITA Fall Nationals – continued to play well, improving to 13-1 and 6-1 on the fall, respectively. The third team combined Tracy Guo/Lucia Natal in a debut match, and they also shined with a 6-3 victory.
"It was great to see all of the doubles teams competing side by side in a dual-match format," CSU head coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "Getting a doubles team sweep shows how strong our doubles teams are."
In singles, Colorado State's top four spots played against the Lobos, while the other three players faced the Aggies, a team who brought eight girls and wanted to get them all matches, so the hosts gave up some spots. Dalla-Bona, playing in the third position, won in straight sets, while Richterova (No. 2) and Mihaljevic (No. 4), went three sets for their victories. Lucia Natal won at No. 5 in straight sets, as did Anastasiia Kotsyuba at No. 7, winning the second in a tiebreak. Guo, at No. 6, needed three sets for her victory. Natal's victory keeps her unbeaten in singles play at 5-0 this fall.
"The girls also battled in their singles matches today," Tran said. "We had a few three setters. They didn't feel the best, but they were gritty and tough and found ways to win. I'm proud of us for winning nine out of 10 matches today."
Saturday, the Rams are slated to face New Mexico in doubles (11:30 a.m.) and Northern Arizona in singles (1:30 p.m.). The tournament continues through Sunday.
