The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has said certain groups of people now are eligible to receive a COVID-19 booster shot, including those who received the Moderna vaccine.
The CDC announced Thursday that the following groups who had their initial two-dose vaccine course at least 6 months ago are eligible to receive the Moderna COVID booster shot:
- Age 65 years and older
- Age 18+ who live in long-term care settings
- Age 18+ who have underlying medical conditions
- Age 18+ who work or live in high-risk settings, including: front line essential workers; healthcare workers; first responders (firefighters, police, congregate care staff); education staff (teachers, support staff, daycare workers); food and agriculture workers; manufacturing workers; corrections workers; U.S. Postal Service workers; public transit workers; and grocery store workers
Moderna’s booster will be half the dose that’s used for the first two shots, based on company data showing that was plenty to rev up immunity again.
