McNeese State owned early leads in both games of a doubleheader Saturday at Cowgirl Diamond, then struggled down the stretch as Boise State completed the series sweep 7-4, 4-1.
“We have done a good job throughout the year to be able to start well,” McNeese head coach James Landreneau said. “We just have to be able to add on.
“We put up four runs in the first game and then gave up seven unanswered. If you get a crooked number up there, you have to be able to add some sticks to it. That is how you put a game away. We are getting it done, then we turn around and give up three runs.”
McNeese (10-12) will look to break a four-game losing streak when it hosts Southern University at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
In the final game of the series, McNeese executed a double steal in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead as Alayis Seneca scored.
The Cowgirls had a chance to extend the lead after back-to-back singles in the second inning by Gracie Devall and Reese Reyna, but grounded into a fielder’s choice to end the inning.
McNeese left seven runners stranded and 18 in the three-game series.
Boise (20-5) took the lead on three runs in the fourth inning, including a go-ahead two-run triple to right field with two outs by Eliyah Flores.
Boise starter Hannah Bailey (8-1) earned her second complete-game victory in the series, while McNeese’s Whitney Tate (2-6) took the loss, her second in as many starts.

The Cowgirls had a promising start before Boise scored seven unanswered runs.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Cowgirls loaded the bases on a leadoff double by Crislyne Moreno plus a walk and a hit batsman with two outs. Reese Reyna drew a walk on four pitches to bring home the first run, then Seneca hit to shallow left field and turned it into a three-run triple and a 4-0 lead. But the Cowgirls didn’t get another hit until the seventh inning.
Boise scored at least one run in each inning from the third to the sixth. The Broncos tied it in the fourth on an Alycia Flores sacrifice fly and took the lead on a RBI single by Eliyah Flores in the fifth.
Kelsey Hall and Serena Huchingson added solo home runs in the sixth. The duo combined for five home runs in the series
Taylor Caudill (7-3) pitched a complete game for Boise with nine strikeouts and five walks.
