Doom heavyweights Come to Grief are finally getting ready to drop their debut, full-length album, When The World Dies, out May 20, 2022 via Translation Loss Records. To get us all hyped, they dropped the song “Life’s Curse.”
Formerly known simply as Grief, the original iteration of the doom band sprang up in 1991. Now, they are back together as Come to Grief, and are unleashing this beast unto the world, not only offering up seven blistering doom songs, but also featuring vocals from none other than Converge’s Jacob Bannon.
“Having Jacob sing backup vocals was a really big deal,” says guitarist and vocalist Terry Savastano. “I’m super grateful for it. We go back a long way actually. He, myself, (Chuck, Come To Grief drummer) and some of the Converge guys come from the same area north of Boston called the Merrimack Valley. He had my first band’s (Afterbirth) demo very early on—we’re talking 1988!
“We were recording with Kurt Ballou (Converge), so I thought it would be awesome and kinda appropriate if he could contribute backing vocals. He’s such an emotional singer I thought it would go perfect with Jonathan’s roar, and I was right! Life’s Curse is a pretty emotional song already; he just added a whole lot more.”
And in addition to this collab, the band are just really stoked to finally get this record out into the world.
“When the World Dies has finally reared its ugly head after nearly eight years of constant shows and EPs,” the band say. “The long-awaited long-player shall bludgeon your existence. Not merely ‘sludge’ or ‘doom,’ WTWD melds many sounds and feelings that parallel the horrid human situation.”
