Bayside Community Hall kicks off its 2020 “Come Together” fundraiser on Oct. 6 with a “Taste of the Philippines Dinner (to go),” catered by the chefs of Bayside Trio.
Two main courses will be offered: Chicken Adobo, a classic stew of marinated chicken and potatoes served with rice, or Pancit Bihon, a vegan dish of rice noodles, mixed vegetables and tofu. Both will be served with vegetable lumpia (fried spring roll in thin wrappers), chopped raw vegetable salad and a dessert of Ube (purple yam) Cake. The price is $15 per dinner if ordered by Oct. 4 and $18 after while supply lasts. Order online at baysidecommunityhall.org or call 707-599-3192.
Pick up will be available from 4:30 to 7 p.m. outside the hall. Everyone must choose a time slot for pick, with masks and social distancing required. At pick-up, diners will also receive instructions for viewing virtual entertainment for the evening, curated by Brian Curtis and Gregg Moore, featuring short clips from local guest artists, plus fun looks at Bayside Hall and its history.
This dinner marks the first of several Bayside events during the month of October. The Bayside Hall is teaming up with Jacoby Creek Land Trust to present a large online auction from Oct. 6 to 23. It includes a wide variety of local products, including many from vendors at the recent Bayside Fall Makers Fair, plus services and experiences that will offer something for everyone.
Events will continue with a “Tacos and Cider Socially Distanced Picnic” at the Jacoby Creek Land Trust on Oct. 17, and “Brunch (to go) in Bayside” at Bayside Community Hall on Oct. 25.
The Bayside Community Hall was built in 1940 as a grange and, in the past several years, has been working to remake itself into a gathering place for the entire community. It recently completed a full remodel of its community kitchen and proceeds from these events will support its next building project: rehabilitation of the hall’s 80-year old wood frame windows. The Jacoby Creek Land Trust works to protect land in the Jacoby Creek Valley and around Northern Humboldt Bay for its natural and cultural values. Its Kokte Ranch and Nature Preserve, at 2182 Old Arcata Road, provides public access to Jacoby Creek and an outdoor classroom for students of all ages to learn about our local environment.
Proceeds from these events will support continued restoration efforts at Kokte including extending the creek trail, developing Kokte as a community venue and launching Rivers, Farming, and Tacos, a venture of Caudal Fin Farm.
