Bread Basket is a new subscription service, offering assortments of breads and cookies from local bakeries.
Like other wholesale food suppliers during the pandemic, Featherstone Foods in the Bronx, which specializes in baked goods, has suffered a shortfall, with so many of its restaurant and food service accounts now closed. It formed a new company, Bread Basket, to deliver or ship fresh bread to retail customers nationwide. In collaboration with a number of bakeries, including Amy’s Bread, Eli’s Bread, Pain d’Avignon and Orwashers, it has created assortments, each one offering breads and cookies from four bakeries. Categories nod to New York, Europe, gluten-free, family, comfort and celebrations, with a Valentine’s Day assortment coming soon. There are no substitutions, but additions are available. Delivery is on Fridays and free for most of New York City and parts of New Jersey; it’s extra elsewhere. Bread Basket is also donating bread to the Food Bank for New York City.
Bread Basket NYC, $45 or $39.99 on a subscription basis, breadbasket.nyc.
