THIS WEEK: New business may come thanks to rezoning in Sugar Land - Houston Chronicle

The rezoning of a parcel of land in Sugar Land could bring some new business to a site that has remained unused for nearly a year, thanks in large part to the ongoing pandemic.

The city of Sugar Land’s is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, to discuss the rezoning of a property along U.S. Highway 59 and Parkway Boulevard south of Sugar Creek Boulevard.

According to the city, the site of the proposed rezoning is the former 24-hour Fitness location that has been vacant since March of 2020. The business reportedly closed due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The site currently exists with one 50,000 square foot building with about 350 surface parking spaces,” according to the meeting agenda. “The property owner has requested to rezone this property in order to explore opportunities for more retail and service-based businesses to operate onsite.”
