Mel Fisher’s Treasures Duval Street shop manager Karolina Calderwood, left, and shipwreck historian Carol Tedesco, right, met up last week to examine and photograph two notable artifacts previously recovered from the Nuestra Senora de Atocha shipwreck, which represent both Old World and New World cultures: an unusual silver ‘piece of eight’ treasure coin on which small stars were used to replace the usual field of fleur-de-lys representing New Burgundy, and a 43.72ct piece of jadeite — a stone prized among the Olmec, Maya, Aztec, Toltec and other pre-Columbian New World inhabitants.
