Daily Scripture
John 1:10-13, 16 (NRSV)
He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him. But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God. From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.
Colossians 3:12-14 (NRSV)
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
Prayer Tip
by Jennifer Creager, Community Assistance Coordination Director
The clock struck, the ball fell, Auld Lang Syne was played, and the New Year arrived. It’s 2022 and in these confusing, often frustrating times, it’s understandable if we feel a little uncertain about what will come next. The usual resolutions-–to eat right, spend less, exercise every day, count our blessings more, learn to play the guitar, clean all our closets--don't seem to fit a world that is beginning its third year of pandemic confusion and worry.
As we begin 2022, how do we pray? Where should we find our priorities and focus? Today’s Scripture gives us a very good list to claim.
Lord God who holds us close in this and all times, thank you for loving us and giving us a longing for new beginnings. In the days to come, cover us with your grace and fill us with your love and compassion for each other. Help us to clothe ourselves with kindness, humility, meekness and patience, reaching out to each other with forgiveness and love, so that we may live together in your perfect peace and harmony.
Amen.
