Pacific Sees Unbeaten Streak Come to an End - Pacific University Athletics

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Pacific saw its undefeated streak come to an end when Redlands scored with seven seconds remaining to edge the 67-66 victory on Saturday afternoon inside the Stoller Center.

The Boxers had the chance to tie on their final possession when they drew a foul with two ticks left on the clock, but split the foul shots to suffer their first defeat of the season. The Bulldogs found their shooting touch from the perimeter as they went 7-of-13 (53.8%) from three-point range.

It was a truly back-and-forth contest that featured 20 lead changes as neither team held a lead larger than seven points.

Top Performers
  • Brilie Kovaloff led all scorers with 19 points on 9-of-17 shooting.
  • Alexis Intong enjoyed a breakout performance with 17 points and five rebounds in her 35 minutes. The forward was an extremely efficient 7-for-10 from the field.
  • Rilee Price delivered a solid all-around performance with seven rebounds, seven assists, five points, and four steals.
  • Sydney Gray reached double figures with 10 points while going 4-of-6 from the floor.

How It Happened

Pacific started well despite falling behind in the early minutes as Kovaloff rattled off six quick points to propel her team into the lead. Gray knocked down a triple to give the Boxers a one-point advantage (18-17) going into the second period.

The back-and-forth contest continued in the second quarter and Pacific stayed hot from beyond the arc, going 2-of-3 from three-point range. Price and Emily Holsan each poured in five points to pace the Boxers offensively and Intong buried two free throws in the final seconds of the half to make it a 32-29 ballgame going into the locker room.

Redlands ended the third quarter on a 7-0 run to take its first lead since the opening period as the Red and Black endured a scoring drought of nearly three minutes. This would all set up for a thrilling fourth quarter.

The visitors quickly extended their lead to six points following a three-pointer on their first possession of the final 10 minutes. The Boxers quickly replied when Kovaloff netted five consecutive points to keep her team within striking distance. Holsan found the bottom of the net from beyond the arc to give her team a one-point advantage, but the Bulldogs would not go away, tying the score on their next time down the court.

Things would heat up in the last two minutes as a layup from Intong gave Pacific a one-point lead. Redlands grabbed the lead on their next possession before Intong nailed another layup to put her team back out in front. The Boxers got a stop on the defensive end with 28 seconds remaining, but missed both foul shots to give the Bulldogs a chance to win the game. With seven seconds left, Redlands' Aliyah Henderson finished off a layup with some contact and completed the three-point play to give her team a two-point lead.

Pacific drew a foul with two seconds left, but the second free throw would come off the iron and the Bulldogs managed to escape with the 67-66 victory.
