Weather Alerts…
Winter Weather Advisory: Fillmore [MN] and Winneshiek [IA] will go under the advisory starting at 3 pm through midnight. This advisory is due to the fact of the chance for light snow and increasing winds which will cause blowing snow. The visibility will be reduced for the evening commute, take it slow.
Wind Chill Advisory: Buffalo, Trempealeau, Jackson [WI], Wabasha, Winona, Fillmore, Houston [MN], Winneshiek and Allamakee [IA] will go under the advisory starting at midnight This will last through noon tomorrow as wind chills could drop to -35 degrees. Which frostbite, can occur in less than 30 minutes in these conditions. Dress appropriately, limit outdoor expose and protect your pets.
Mild then snow….
Early morning southerly winds will allow for the clear skies to hold through mid-morning and winds usher the temperatures to soar into the 30s. High temperatures, before the snow and cold, will be within the upper 30s. However, if temperatures are able to reach the upper 30s this will create a sloppy start to the next snow system.
Snow then cold…
Snow/mix:
As the line of snow reaches our region, which could be during the evening commute, there will be a chance for a switch over to light rain/wintry mix before the cold upper air takes over. The evening commute will be very slippery due to the chance for a wintry mix, although less snow accumulation due to a wintry mix at the onset. However, snow accumulations either way will remain under an inch.
Deep cold:
As the snow exits, the cold doesn’t wait. Winds from the northwest fill in quickly and will first bring the hazard of blowing snow, especially in southeastern Minnesota. Blowing snow will reduce visibility for travel late Wednesday into early Thursday. Then dangerous wind chills will come from these winds. The wind chill will range from -10 degrees to -35 degrees, which frostbite can occur in less than 30 minutes in those conditions. These conditions will be present for the morning commute tomorrow and Friday, so make sure to dress appropriately and limit outdoor exposure (don’t forget about your pets!).
Cold lingers…
As we head through Thursday the skies will gradually clear to bring back the sunshine and stay dominate by the sunshine into Friday. However, the temperatures are expected to feel-like (wind chill) below zero all day Thursday and most of Friday.
P.S.A. The temperatures will soar back into the 30s for your weekend!!
