PORT CHARLOTTE — The Rays are offering a novel new ticket plan in which fans select four games and if the Rays win all four, they get to come back for more games until they lose.
The Rays Win Pack, at $99, is one of three new plans announced Wednesday.
Likely more popular will be the Ballpark Pass, allowing fans to attend as many games as they want, with a standing room only ticket, for $36 a month. The pass includes no blackout dates and will be offered in limited quantity.
The third option are flex packs, where fans can get five lower-level tickets for $99 and use them however they want.
Here is the full description of the Rays Win Pack from the team:
"For $99 per pack, fans can select any four Rays regular-season home games. If buyers select and attend four games that the Rays win, they will receive a voucher to choose another home game for free. Rays Win Pack holders with four consecutive wins can continue to choose games for free until they attend a game that the Rays lose or the end of the regular season. For more information, visit RaysBaseball.com/rayswinpack.''
Here are some more details: The Ballpark Pass is billed monthly for full season, but can be cancelled. Also can be upgraded to a seat. ... Win Pack seats are in the lower reserved, 200-level reserved and party deck areas. Flex packs include Opening Day but not games vs. Red Sox or Yankees.
All packs will be available starting at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24 through the MLB Ballpark app and at raysbaseball.com/ticketpacks.
Earlier Wednesday, principal owner Stuart Sternberg said under the new plans there will be tickets for $12 or less to half the games, and $10 or less to about 30, as well as specials during the season.
“Affordability won’t be an issue, and never should be an issue, with attending a baseball game, and especially attending a Rays baseball game,” said Sternberg, adding that under their plans it will be “amazingly affordable. It’s already amazingly affordable. Ridiculously affordable. Amazingly, ridiculously, silly affordable.”
He said that given the excitement coming off last year’s success, he expects “attendance to be up this year, as it really should be.”
And though the team announced Tuesday it would sell tickets only on mobile devices using the MLB Ballpark app, he said that fans who don’t have smartphones or don’t want to use the app will be accommodated — “friction-less” — through the box office or team store.
