HONOLULU — The nonprofit Hawai‘i Realtors Charitable Foundation collected $14,000 in monetary donations and 3,700 pounds of non-perishable food items during its first-ever food drive.
Kaua‘i Realtors collected 1,077 pounds from island residents in September and October.
Starting on Sept. 1, dozens of Realtors and partner companies across the state hosted canned-food-donation points, and monetary donations were collected online under the #OneCanIfCan campaign. The canned-food donations benefit their respective island food banks. Monetary donations will also be distributed to each food bank.
“Our ‘One Can If Can’ campaign was built on the idea that small acts of giving done by many people is what makes a difference during times of struggle,” said Moana Andersen, president of the foundation. “We want to share our most heartfelt mahalo with everyone who supported this important effort, which far exceeded our goals.”
The donations will provide tens of thousands of meals to Hawai‘i families in need during this critical time. Total canned-food donations in pounds by island: O‘ahu (1,125); Maui (777); and the island of Hawai‘i (722).
The Hawai‘i Realtors Charitable Foundation, launched earlier this year with a $50,000 donation to food banks throughout Hawai‘i, serves local communities by supporting charitable organizations and their efforts to assist those in need. The foundation is established by the statewide professional trade organization Hawai‘i Realtors.
