Skin tone condoms come with lofty promise: 'Sex for everyone' - New York Post

They’re setting the tone.

UK sexual wellness brand Roam has introduced a new collection of condoms in four shades: original latex, light brown, medium brown and dark brown.

The company claims its new line is the world’s first skin-toned condoms.

The colorful wrappers — which cost $19 for a pack of 12, $25 for 18, and $44 for 36 — will be available to purchase in drugstores across the UK and from online retailers beginning April 17.

The Post reached out to Roam for comment.

“Roam has been built to end the stigma and shame in shopping for sex for everyone,” a brand representative told the Daily Mail.

“Legacy brands have failed to address nuanced needs of all sexually active communities. The launch of our Skin Tone Condoms presents a choice that has never existed before, one that celebrates individuality.”

Roam, which boasts sizes that include slim, regular, and large, advertises its contraceptives as “extra lubricated, ultra-thin, ultra-durable condoms that feel great and support local communities and the planet.”

The covers are also said to be vegan, dermatologically tested, pH balanced, made of natural biodegradable latex and premium fair rubber, and “free from unnecessary chemicals.”

Roam touts eco-friendly paper-foil packaging with 50% less plastic than other condoms, reportedly generating 40% less of an environmental impact compared to a typical brand.

For every pack purchased, the team behind Roam promises to donate a condom to the UK sexual health and wellbeing organization Brook to help make contraception more accessible.

The release of the innovative condoms comes as experts warn of a rise in sexually transmitted diseases and infections across the US, noting a concerning spike in NYC.

Reports of STIs increased significantly across the Big Apple following the lifting of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, according to new data from the city’s health department.

The agency’s stats show the number of chlamydia cases rose about 10% between 2020 and 2021, while the rate of women diagnosed with primary and secondary syphilis surged nearly 29%.

Across the US, new syphilis infections climbed 26% in 2021, reaching its highest rates since 1991 and the largest number of cases since 1948. HIV cases are also on the rise, up 16% last year.

David Harvey, executive director of the National Coalition of STD Directors, called the situation “out of control” at an STD prevention conference last year.

Experts say condoms are necessary to prevent infections.

“It’s pretty simple. More sexually transmitted infections occur when people are having more unprotected sex,” Dr. Mike Saag, an infectious disease expert at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, declared at the September conference.
