Dutchwomen Come Up Short at Ithaca - Union College Athletics

ITHACA, N.Y. – Despite a pair of victories by junior Marilena Karadimou, the Union College women's tennis team came up a few points short in a 6-3 loss to Ithaca College on Sunday afternoon at Glazer Arena.

Karadimou played a role in two of the three victories on the day for Union (3-5, 1-3 Liberty League), posting wins at second singles and first doubles. First-year Gabby Gatto also pulled out a third-singles win for the Dutchwomen.

Karadimou and sophomore Gracie Nicol pulled out a marathon win at first doubles over Taylor Crain and Lauren Rodriguez, winning 12-10 in a supertiebreaker to put Union down a point headed into singles play.

Karadimou also went the distance in her second-singles matchup with Rodriguez, coming back from a set down to earn a 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 victory. Gatto also earned a win for the Dutchwomen in her third-singles matchup with Rebecca Andrews, posting a 6-4, 6-4 straight-set victory.

Union will step out of conference play on Thursday for a 4 p.m. match at Hamilton College.
