EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team reached the midway point of their second Ohio Valley Conference series on Saturday afternoon in a visiting capacity against SIUE, ultimately falling by a 6-0 deficit to mark just the second occasion in 24 appearances that the Skyhawks were unable to produce a run. Now that both sides have claimed one win each over the first two meetings, Sunday's rubber match becomes an even more important date as first pitch is slotted for 1:00 p.m. once more.

Able to muster two hits on the day – the first courtesy of second-baseman Alec Beaman to lead off the 6^th and the second on a rightfield tightrope from Jack Culumovic in the final inning – the Skyhawks managed to load the bases in the aforementioned 9^th frame but were unfortunately unable to put a dent in the Cougars' six-run advantage, moving UTM to an overall record of 8-16 on the year.

Junior lefty Jacob Smith took the starting nod in Game 2 in a five-inning capacity, throwing 111 pitches next to six K's. Facing 26 SIUE batters, Smith was relieved by freshman J. Henry Hobson, who put away the final nine outs of the Cougars' lineup on only three hits allowed.

Aiming to rebound from the mid-series setback and claim the Sunday W in 24 hours, UT Martin will stay on the road for one more bout following tomorrow's SIUE wrap-up, taking on defending national champion Mississippi State in Starkville on Tuesday.
